About Breath as Your Foundation with Pamela Wilson
Yoga breathing techniques (Pranayama) are an important part of a developing yoga practice. Pranayama and yoga go hand in hand. Pranayama is a Sanskrit word meaning extension of the prāṇa or breath or extension of the life force.
In addition to deepening your yoga practice, learning ways to calm, balance, or invigorate the body and mind through breathing techniques will greatly benefit your life off the mat. A belief that different breaths affect the body’s health and life force is the core of pranayama.
As yogis have known for centuries—and as medical science is beginning to discover—the breath has amazing recuperative powers. Pranayama techniques are beneficial in treating a range of stress-related disorders, improving autonomic functions, relieving symptoms of asthma, remedying insomnia, and much more. By controlling the breath, you can alter your state of mind. You can develop a steady mind, strong will power, and sound judgment. Sustained pranayama helps to extend life and enhance perception.
This workshop will explore the Complete Yogic Breath that is the basis of yoga. Come explore the world of the breath! No experience in Pranayama – or Yoga – is required.
